The Northern Ireland Pointer Club held an Open Pointer & Setter stake at Slieveanorra on Saturday 21st February 2009. The judges were Sammy MorrisonĀ and myself. The day was bright but windy and felt cold if you weren’t walking. It stayed dry the whole day.
As one of the judges I am precluded from commenting other than in general terms. As the first event for most of these dogs this year the vast majority of the dogs were far from full fitness. Having said that a number of our better dogs still tried to make good their ground. It was a credit to the handlers of the really unfit dogs that they were able to handle their dogs at all once they ran out of puff but the constant intervention by the handlers badly disrupted the flow of their performances.
There were six dogs in the second round, a F.T.Ch., an Irish F.T.Ch. with one leg up under K.C. rules and four other dogs each with a leg up as well.
The awards :-
1st Kenmilfore Evening Glimmer Wilson Harrison’s I.R.S.D. handled by Desi Linton.(Now F.T.Ch. Subject to Kennel Club confirmation)
2nd Irish F.T.Ch. Pallasgreen Harriett Jim Sheridan’s Irish Red & White setter bitch.
Once again if all chances at game had been availed of there would have been a number of other awards as well.
