Bad day at the office. This old frozen shoulder of mine means I wake up every night and last night I needed a full night’s sleep, which I didn’t get so I arose tired and in foul humour. The trial didn’t go particularly well either. My heart tells me I should have made the second round but my head tells me I shouldn’t. There was a herd of Red Deer in and around the trials area. Jump did cover a good bit of ground and with his usual pace and style but every time he crossed the deer scented area he stopped and checked out the scent on the ground looking a bit distracted while doing it so no real complaints there.( Which if I think about it means he did NOT do it with pace and style ) To exacerbate things today I met the most obnoxious person I have ever met in trials and maybe even ever. He’ll not get the opportunity to turn his back on me when I offer my hand again. I also overheard an instant expert criticizing the judges when his dog was blatantly not up to standards. Is it me?The judges were Jim Sheridan and Aiden Dunne. The trainee, or C judge , Vincent Flanelly was laid low with the flu.
We were on what is colloquially known as The Liffey Head. Dull at times, at other times a bit of sun but the temperatures, lower than yesterday’s were helped by the fact that there was little of no wind. We took the field about 09:39 and the first ten brace were finished at 12:30. When the list of Dogs Not Required was announced, and I was on it I left for home.
I have the results:-
1 Lefanta Keira ESB Gerald Devine Excellent
2 Capproe Heather ESB Billy Grace Very Good
3 Torryview Eilish ESB Paddy Power Very Good
So Gerald wins two days in a row. In fact I believe it’s three days in a row for he won the Novice stake last Sunday as well.
