The Pointer Club held it’s Confined Stake at Kilakee on Sunday 14th August 2005. Judges for the day were Aiden Dunne, Hugh Brady & Tony Mulhall. The day was perfect but the wind was coming from an angle I have never experienced in this hill. The breeze was steady at about Fr 2 and it was sunny most of the time.

A day to forget both personally and collectively. Plenty of birds seen. Plenty of dogs ballsed up. Some poor handling and some poor dog work. I watched the first round and saw nothing of note other than a good clean run by Lawrence McAllister’s Pointer dog Lagopus Yogi. He had a find on a snipe. I saw the eventual winner’s first round and it was an acceptable performance, nothing more. The third round consisted of four dogs all without a find at that time. The winner had the only find in the third round. This was a strange day. Plenty of birds were seen on the hill. Some were misused, some were walked up by the gallery but few were found in the body of the stake. I’ll bet the wind was from the NE. Dog’s couldn’t smell frying bacon when the wind is from the NE. I wouldn’t have wished to take any of these dogs home on this performance. Including my own.
Jump :- Handled reasonably well in tricky very broken ground. Had a good find that you could have called ” down wind ” as he knew exactly where the bird was, behind him. Produced the bird and then eliminated himself by failing to drop to the shot. Stupid dog!
