The Red Setter Club’s I.K.C. Derby Stake.
The trial was held on the Liffey Head Grounds and the judges were Charlie Neeson and Tim Fox. It started offf a bad day with fog and light rain but eventually it cleared.
There were no awards.
There were some mature looking pups amongst them one of Gerald Devine’s English Setters, another of Billy Grace’s, and Fr. O’Neill’s Irish Setter. For me the class act was Hugh Brady’s imported Red Setter Bitch, Remkilens T-Ebba. This is not ” the fastest ever ” as sold by Hugh but it does quarter very flat and fast. It had a chance at birds, pointed them, produced them, and then chased them, I’m not sure if before or after the shot.
Bess & Flake :- For once we were in among the also rans. They did well enough for their first trial as pups and Bess at least would have pointed a grouse given a chance but they looked a lower division from those mentioned above.
