The N.I.Pointer Club held it’s Open Stake at Scotstown on Saturday 24th September 2005. This venue was used as at short notice the peat extraction company had removed the heather from our usual site at Glarryford. The judges for the day were Carol Calvert and Dr Steven Clarke. The weather was unkind. The wind moved about and we had heavy rain at times just to add to the cool single figure temperatures.
COM Kelminfore Evening Glimmer Wilson Harrion’s Red Setter Dog handled by Desi Linton.
Judy :- Had what has become the norm for her. A blistering run, wide, flat and hunting hard. Left our bracemate for dead but it all fell apart at the end. Our bracemate , pottering about in the middle of the beat flushed a grouse, and even thought I thought Judy didn’t see it, because of the high rushes, she didn’t drop when I blew the whistle and ran through the flushing point and out of the stake. Pity.
The makings of a good trial badly affected by the weather. Most of the first timers on this ground found it a good place for a trial. Dogs in the main ran well, plenty of width and control in evidence. On a personal note the Pointer I thought, warranted a higher award than a COM.
