The above club held it’s annual breed stake at Glenwherry, on The Brunt Beat, on Friday 29th September 2006. The ground was made available by Lord Duncuce and he was represented on the day by the Estate keeper, Robert Luff. Judges for the day were the vastly experienced and much respected Mrs Patricia (Pat) Woods M.R.C.V.S. and our own committee member Edward (Ned) Butler.
Although the weather gods threatened rain the dullness was soon swept away by the sun and by the end of the day we had a glorious Autumn afternoon in bright sunshine. It was small stake of the minimum sixteen dogs and there were a number of chances afforded by a number of small coveys but only one was made use of.
There was only one award :-
2nd Burncastle Mary Doll Richard MacNicol’s Pointer Bitch.
It is disappointing not to have a winner but the integrity of our premier event on a historical basis is of the utmost importance. At the awards cermony Pat commented on how impressed she had been with the quartering of our dogs and how nice it was to have dogs running with pace and more importantly, drive.
Jalad :- This was my good deed for the day, I ran him to make up the numbers. He set about his work OK but wouldn’t turn and I asked permission to pull him up.
Judy :- Her confinement to the kennel showed. She was far too keen, took too big a bite and on about her fifth or sixth cast ran sideways into a small covey of six.
Jump :- In his last outing on Irish soil Jump put in a tremendous display of quartering. He had everything, pace, drive, pattern and intensity. The only thing we didn’t have was a bird. He got three runs and all were of the highest quality. Many people were surprised that he was retiring in Ireland at nine years old. I was very pleased with him.
