The above Club held it’s Open Stake for Pointers and A/V Setter under Kennel Club Rules & Regulations at Glarryford on 30th September 2006. The judges were John Christie and Alan Neill. This had all the ingredients for a top class stake but the weather snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, well almost. The day was dull and showery to start with and serious rain started about 12:15 and lasted the rest of the day with some bursts of monsoon like proportions, although thankfully after the event had finished. The nearest release pen to the trial ground held in excess of a hundred birds and this pen had been driven out but so few of the birds showed up. It is however a credit to the club that these well hardned off birds were able to fly, and fly well in atrocious conditions.

I saw little of this trial as I sheltered for long periods in the car but I saw all the finds, and a few of the flushes. Taking the conditions into consideration there was some excellent work.
Judy :- Too much dog. She wouldn’t handle ( poor preparation on my part ) and after a few casts which were only to please herself I asked permission to pick her up.
Bess :- Still a pup, I was delighted with Bess’ efforts. She learnt about the small drains the hard way by falling into the first half dozen, and they were full of water. However, once she got herself sorted out she ran quite well and actually made the second round. Her good work continued in the second round and perhaps she even improved. The ground was very heavy and slowed her a bit but not as much as it did the older dogs she was running with. I would have liked her lines to have been straighter but everything else was very good. Maybe I will take her to Scotland in the spring as well.
