The Pointer Club of Scotland held it’s Novice Stake for Pointers & Setters at Clune on Tuesday 27th March 2007 by kind permission of His Grace the Duke of Bedford. Judges were Peter O’Driscoll and Dominic Goutorbe. The gun was carried by David Hall as the keepers were still on burning duty.
1st Lefanta Tinka Gerald Devine’s English Setter Bitch
2nd Lusca Sniff the Wind Steve Robinson’s Irish Setter Dog.
3rd Jobeshill Rosella Billy Darragh’s Irish Setter Bitch.
Lefanta Tinka also received the award for Best Setter at the two day meeting and Richard MacNicol’s Gerensary Dancer, the third palced dog in the Open Stake received a similar award for the Best Pointer.
Jalad was out for flushing a grouse that was sitting on a mound looking at him from when he was cast off.
Bess had a blank run and was asked to wait on but didn’t get called back or into the second round.
Judy had two pacey runs in the first round but was a bit hard to handle even though she did her ground all right. In the second round she became hard to hold and ended up taking too big a bite and became nearly out of control.
This was an excellent trial. Perhaps the better of the novice dogs handled the conditions better than the Open Stake dogs the day before or perhaps the conditions were better today.
The winner is a dog of exceptional quality. Judy ran against it last year in an Open Stake in Galway. It didn’t start off as the run off but we were down for nearly twenty minutes so the judges must have liked something about our run.
It says something that the winner of the novice stake received the award for best Setter at the meet when the Open Stake the previous day was won by a Gordon.
